Ode to the Ocean

Southern California’s southern summer beaches
Coastlines lined with luminescent sunlight rays
Illuminating the capacious coast of California
Basking on the beach’s brae the waves beckon me in
I sit up, shuffle to the sea, and take a short swim
The tepid waters I tread are far from tranquil
But I keep treading still
The private, peopleless Pacific beach becomes
More alluring because it’s abandoned, arcane, and all mine
Seagulls circle and scope the scintillating cyanic sea
Searching for fish or for any food for that matter
But they fly off finding nothing to their avail
Feeling stress free and fully relaxed
I swim ashore and take a short nap
Basking in the incandescent beams of the midday sun
Dreaming of the days when I was young
